Winner             Smarter Grid Solutions – Orkney Registered Power Zone

Verdict             Developing a technology which manages different types of renewables access to the grid, ensuring electricity generated is exported.  A Scottish company, this innovation is being used in Orkney and currently exported to other parts of the UK and further a field.  The innovation is the first stage in creating smart grids and maximising the best usage of the GB Grid.

Verdict             The dissertation focussed the evaluation of the renewables obligation and whether it was applicable in its current shape for the future.  The Judging panel thought it was an extremely interesting project which was applicable across the renewables industry.  The author showed an impressive understanding of the issues whilst discussing them in a clear and concise manner.
