The Scottish Renewables Green Energy Awards 2010
Best Politician Award This Award recognises the achievements of politicians working to support renewable energy in Scotland. The politician could be an MSP, an MP with constituency interests in Scotland, a Scottish based MEP or a local councillor in Scotland and they should currently hold an elected post. |
|
Best New Business Award This Award recognises the work of businesses working directly in the renewable energy industry that have been established in Scotland in the past three years. The business should be located in Scotland, and could include new businesses established by a parent company to serve a new market, or through inward investment. |
|
Best Environmental Initiative Award
This award recognises initiatives have improved or redefined agreed best environmental practice or technique associated with renewable energy development. This award can go to an onsite initiative, scientific or research related work but development of renewables projects themselves (and their associated achievement of carbon savings) will be insufficient to qualify for this Award. |
|
Best Renewable Project Award This Award is for either a physical renewable project in Scotland established in the last three years that is producing renewable energy and offsetting carbon emissions, or an initiative with a physical presence that is offering support to the wider renewables industry. |
|
Best Community Initiative Award This Award will go to an initiative that has been led and developed by a community and with wide-community support and involvement. The Award could be for an actual renewables development or a piece of work or an initiative that is supporting community renewables development in Scotland. |
|
Business Achievement Award This Award is for businesses where renewable energy is not its principle activity but have worked to secure business within the renewable industry, either through diversification, or through working as part of the supply chain to ensure the economic benefits of renewables are seen in Scotland. |
|
Best Renewable Innovation Award This Award will go to a project or initiative that shows innovative use of promotion and/or development of renewables in Scotland. The judges are keen to see nominations from a wide variety of applicants so would encourage nominees to explain why their nomination choice could be considered “innovative”.
Best Student Project Award
The award is open for Scottish Universities to nominate under graduate and post graduate students undertaking any course project that contributes to our understanding and support for the future of renewable energy in Scotland. Engineering, policy, economics, law and environmental science are just some of the course subjects that students are studying in Scotland today that have direct relevance to the development of renewable energy. Projects will have to demonstrate a good understanding of the sector’s work and come up with findings that can be presented at our annual conference.
Outstanding Contribution to the Industry Award This Award will go to a person that has made a key contribution to making our industry a success. Key to success here will be how the drive, expertise and enthusiasm of this person has been critical to ensuring development of renewables in Scotland |

Disclaimer
Nomination forms are strictly private and confidential and are shared only by the events organisers (Scottish Renewables Forum) and the judging panel. Those making nominations should avoid sending in supporting information, but instead make their case using the nomination form or separate piece of paper (maximum 1 side A4 per nomination). Nomination forms must be received by noon on Friday 8th October 2010 (maximum 1 side A4 per nomination)
If supporting information is required to clarify aspects of the nominations, this will be sought by Scottish Renewables as part of its work preparing information for the Judging Panel. Judges will be looking for quality of applications, not necessarily numbers of nomination forms received. This is to discourage mass ‘voting’.
Instead, each person nominating is invited to make a clear case for why a particular project/person should be nominated. The judges’ decision is independent of the owners of the company. The judges’ decision is final. Self nomination by organisations and individuals is acceptable. There should be no lobbying of the judging panel as part of the nomination. The judging panel will take a severe view where evidence of this comes
